Grief & Bereavement Counseling

The Tulare & Kings Counties Suicide Prevention Task Force (SPTF) operates a program targeted at providing grief and bereavement services to individuals immediately impacted by suicide loss.

This program provides grief and bereavement counseling, which is a short-term, high-intensity, early intervention service to decrease subsequent suicide risk by survivors of suicide loss.

Eligibility for this program is simple: if you have lost someone to suicide, are deeply impacted by that loss, and are willing to participate in 6 to 8 one-hour sessions of grief and bereavement counseling, then you are eligible if you live or work in either Tulare or Kings County. We will refer you to a participating clinician at no charge to you. There are no share-of-cost, out-of-pocket expenses, co-pays, or other forms of insurance involved. This service is fully funded using Proposition 63: Mental Health Services Act funding.

If you or someone you know has experienced a suicide loss and would like to receive a voucher for grief and bereavement services, please contact Carla Sawyer at (559) 685-2281 or by email.

We are always in need of eligible clinicians in Tulare and Kings Counties to participate in our voucher program. If you are a clinician with a valid license to practice in the state of California and are interested in accepting our vouchers, please review the two forms below. The Information Form describes the program and the reimbursement process in greater detail. The Clinician Interest Form is used to apply to participate in accepting our vouchers.

  • If an agreement is established, it will be between the clinician and the County of Tulare. The County has specific insurance requirements that must be met in order to establish an agreement. These requirements will be sent after the initial discussion of interest and qualifications.
