Presenter:
Ted C. Bonar, Psy.D. is a clinical psychologist and a nationally recognized trainer and speaker at conferences and universities. He is currently the Clinical Director for PSYCHhub, an online learning platform co-founded by former Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) and former PsychArmor Institute CEO Marjorie Morrison. Also an independent professional based in Columbus, OH, he is a National Trainer for Mental Health First Aid, USA with the National Council for Behavioral Health. He was previously the Chief of Continuing Education Programs at the Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP) where he oversaw and implemented training programs focused on common military-related behavioral healthcare concerns, evidence-based treatment of PTSD, and suicide prevention and treatment. 

Program:
2-day (15 contact hours) training in Prolonged Exposure Therapy. Both days of this training must be completed to be eligible for Continuing Education units and/or a certificate of completion.

Scope of training:
This 2-day training provides a comprehensive advanced clinical training in the background, research, theory, principles, and techniques of Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), which is an evidence-based treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Attending participants will leave this training prepared to utilize this protocol with proper follow-up consultation. Training will include didactic presentation, video presentation, video of protocol use, role play for all participants.

Learning objectives:

  • Describe the theoretical and etiological components of a trauma reaction.
  • Fully understand and utilize the fundamental theoretical underpinnings of Prolonged Exposure therapy.
  • Incorporate select research and evidence supporting Prolonged Exposure therapy into practice.
  • Learn and practice the full Prolonged Exposure techniques and protocol including imaginal exposure, invivo exposure, breathing retraining, and the use of session recordings.
  • Observe and participate in Prolonged Exposure role plays.
  • Discuss how to manage difficult patient challenges and concerns such as over engagement, under engagement, and patient compliance.

Agenda:

We are hosting two separate training opportunities. Both will be held at Fresno Pacific University's Visalia campus. Attendees should register for and attend only one session, but must attend both days of that session.

Requirements of training for participants:

  • Full attendance at 2-day, 15-hour training (partial attendance will result in the participant being unprepared to ethically utilize this protocol)
