Hope Recognition Awards

The Tulare & Kings Counties Suicide Prevention Task Force is pleased to announce its inaugural Hope Recognition 2017 Awards event, scheduled for 11 a.m  to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9.

This event, coming just before National Suicide Prevention Week (Sept 10-16), will celebrate nearly 10 years of action directed by the task force, and will recognize and honor some of the individuals who have been instrumental in advancing its mission of suicide prevention awareness.

The task force was formed shortly after a rash of suicides afflicted our communities in 2007 and was formally established and funded thanks to the voter-enacted Proposition 63 of 2004, also known as the Mental Health Services Act. Since then the task force has promoted, funded or cultivated a range of services to support survivors of suicide, provide grief counseling,  train individuals on recognizing the signs of suicide, foster improved mental health outlooks among teenagers, LGBTQ communities, veterans and other groups susceptible to the indicators of suicide risk.

The Hope Recognition Awards will recognize people in Tulare and Kings counties who have been instrumental to those efforts in the realms of education, community activism and youth services, as well as honor those work has blazed trails in new approaches to suicide prevention.

The event will also feature the artwork that the youth of our communities created in the cause of promotion of mental health, entries in the annual Slick Rock Film Festival, and messages of encouragement from local dignitaries.

An array of food vendors will be on hand to provide options for food purchase, and light snacks will be available.
